About Us

We are a very small farm. In fact we measure our total acreage in square feet, not acres! It all started because David grew up on a pepper farm in South Florida and thought it would be neat to duplicate the ‘operation’ out West. Our seedlings are grown in Florida, starting in November. We do this because it is very difficult to get the seedlings started that early in our own climate. The peppers then come to us in boxes with no soil, by air sometime in January. They arrive in batches of about 8,000 at a time and they need to be planted immediately. We put them in plugs first to allow for the roots to get established. This happens better in small containers with controlled watering and temperature. Around the beginning of March, when the threat of freezing is over, the peppers get planted in the dirt, inside the greenhouse.

The tilling and preparation of the rows happened a couple of weeks before. The hose gets buried and checked to see that it will work. This hose is what provides the drip irrigation. It has holes every foot, which slowly drips water around it. The plants are planted a few inches away from this hole so that the roots get the water they need.
